Food storage

I have been thinking about food storage a lot lately.  I actually can't stop thinking about it and everywhere I go I am hearing about it.  So I took it as a wake up call that I really need to get some good food storage in the works.  Their are always other places for me to spend my money so I usually don't want to spend it on food storage.  But a couple weeks ago Jed said he felt strongly that we should work on it.  That kinda freaked me out because Jed normally doesn't care.  So we started with Macey's case lot sale and got things that we normally eat (mainly canned) Then I went and bought 15  one gallon jugs of water.  I thought hey this is a lot of water...great!  Then I learned you need a gallon per person per day.  So in other words that will keep my family alive for 3 days! LOL. oh well it's a start.  I'm not freaking out, just trying to be prepared if something were to happen.  My dad has had a lot of the same feelings as me so we are looking into other food storage options like The Daily Bread.  We are going to have a presentation again (we had one 3 years ago and never did anything...ooops!)  in a couple weeks so we will go from there.  It is a little expensive but I think if a large group goes in on it it is cheaper.  I am also trying my garden again.  I really can't grow anything!  I killed a cactus when we lived in St. George!! Who does that?! ...oh ya ME!  Jed said he will help me so hopefully I can do it.  I would really like to get fruit trees and start bottling but I am scared.  Trees are a lot more money to kill then a cactus. :)  But we will see how it goes.  I planted onions, peas, strawberries, and raspberries so far.  I have squash and cantaloupe planted in the house right now.  Later I am doing tomatoes, peppers, and pumpkins.  I should do zucchini just to make me feel better because people say everyone can grow that!  I will poat pic.s if I get anything!

  1. I'm feeling the same way. We really need to work on our food storage. I wish we could have used our tax return for it. I hope your garden works out this year.
